A life of craftsmanship and history
Born in Liverpool, England in 1960, my career began with a coach-building apprenticeship at Rolls-Royce motor cars in Crewe, Cheshire – a place with its own rich wartime history, where Merlin engines were built during WW2. After 20 dedicated years, I moved to Airbus UK, retiring after another two decades. Married since 1983, my wife Jane and I lived in Canada for a period in the 80s and still visit family there regularly. Outside of writing, my passions include golf (with an 11 handicap!), scale modelling, walking, and travelling.

Inspired by history, crafted for readers
My fascination with military history, particularly WW2, has been a lifelong journey. I've explored countless battlefields and war graves across Northern Europe, immersing myself in the past. My early literary influences include writers like Sven Hassel and Leo Kessler, and I’ve always enjoyed watching classic war films such as The Longest Day and The Guns of Navarone. Upon retiring in 2019, I decided it was the perfect time to channel this passion into writing my own WW2-set novel, bringing historical events to life through fiction.

The U 931 difference
What truly makes the U 931 books special is the attempt to convey a storyline that could genuinely have happened. I aim for readers to ponder the profound question: 'What if?' This element of plausible historical fiction is something I deeply value. The most rewarding aspect of writing for me is the continuous discovery of new facts and details during the extensive research process, which enriches every page of the series.
